Sterlitech contributes high-quality solutions for use in various cannabis extraction and filtration methods. Our specialization in microfiltration gives us a unique understanding of how to assist cannabis processors achieve their extraction goals.
Filtration is an important step in production of high quality cannabis extracts. Typical extraction methods often have carryover of undersirable lipids, plant matter, and debris from cultivation, and filtration is often the key to high-quality final product. Sterlitech suggests a three-step vacuum filtration process with increasingly fine separation. Vacuum filtration systems require a vacuum pump, filter holder (i.e. glass funnel), filters, collection flask, and appropriate rubber stoppers and tubing. Filter holder selection is based on the desired filtration level, from rudimentary Buchner funnels to precise glass microanalysis holders.
Filter holder selection is based on the desired filtration level, from rudimentary Buchner funnels to precise glass microanalysis holders. Glass filter holders provide sealed support for the filter membrane to ensure solution passes through, and not around. Depending on the system, a manifold can be added to increase throughput by running multiple solutions.
Sterlitech BE filter kits include everything needed to get started when filtering solvent-extracted compounds of interest from plant-based sources. Porcelain Buchner kits are available in 125, 150, and 185mm sizes and come with coarse, medium, and slow cellulose filters. The Buchner kits also include a receiving flask and appropriate adaptors.
Organic Solvent Nanofiltration (OSN) is a method that uses multiple filtration steps to purify and concentrate cannabis extracts. With this method, batches of crude ethanol extract are filtered using a nanofiltration membrane with pores that prevent large molecules from passing through.
For rotary evaporator systems, Sterlitech offers both a comprehensive, top-of-the-line system assembly and a la carte components to suit individual lab needs. Our evaporator options present superior quality technology designed for easy use.
These vacuum pumps are suitable for both small and large vacuum oven purging, from 3-5 cubic feet. The dual-pumping technology delivers high speeds at the critical vacuum levels above 29.5” Hg vacuum, allowing for faster solvent purging.
Since plant materials are complex mixtures of different chemicals, the primary challenge of botanical
extraction is separating the various compounds found in different parts of the plant and recovering
the desired product. A typical cannabis processing scheme can include a solvent extraction followed
by winterization and filtration. From there, solvents can be recovered for the next batch and
concentrates can be further modified into valuable end products. For an overview of current cannabis
extraction methods, please download a copy of our Cannabis Extraction Guide.
